Artist Statement:
My work explores the relationship between movement, color, and design.
My ideas and techniques come mostly from the fluidity of nature; the waves of
the ocean, the twisting of vines, and the shapes of petals and leaves. I take these
natural forms and abstract them, giving them a dream like quality. I also enjoy
working with geometric patterns and shapes. Even though this creates a more
rigid composition, the colors I use still allow the viewer to feel movement.
I draw inspiration from my everyday experiences and daydreams. Once my
paintbrush touches the canvas I get influenced by the bright colors and flowing
gestures. I create compositions that allow shape and color to interact in an
exciting way.
By using abstract designs I let the viewer develop their own individual
relationship with my work. I enjoy artwork that is open to personal exploration
and love creating pieces that inspire others to look at the world differently. I hope
to continue exploring movement through my painting and developing more ideas.
I want to explore new ways of expressing myself within my paintings.
