The Story of Uno

Uno is my "Little Doggie".  He came into my work, Limestone Veterinary Hospital, New Years Day.  He was wrapped up in a woman's jacket, who explained to all of us that she had found him on the street.  He had an injured eye.  This particular Veterinary Hospital doesn't take in strays, but lucky we personally know some organizations that can help.  Delaware Puppy Rescue stepped up and said that they would take care of all his medical needs.  At first glance I fell in love with him.  He was so small and helpless.  He just wanted someone to take care of him.  One of the nurses came up and took him to the back to prep him for surgery.  Dr. Creasey preformed the operation and took great care of him.  Unfortunately she wasn't able to save his eye and ended up having to remove it.  I was really interested in fostering this little Chihuahua and the Delaware Puppy Rescue gave me that opportunity.  I was so excited.

The day I brought him home my family fell in love with him too.  He wasn't a normal Chihuahua, you think he would be this yappy little dog.  But he never made a noise.  My mom actually thought that he was a mute.  We knew that he had been through a lot and that he was in a strange place.  I knew that he would eventually come around.  After Fostering him back to health I had to make a huge decision.  Did I want to put this little guy up for adoption or keep him.  Well, I couldn't give him up.  I loved him.  I talked it over with my family and I made my decision.  I am going to keep him.  When he was officially mine my family and I came up with the name Uno.  Chihuahua's originated from Mexico so we had to give him a Spanish name and because he had one eye we went with Uno.

Now Uno and I are inseparable.  We do almost everything together.  He is slowly coming out of his shell.  He is barking now, only when people come into the house.  He is very good going on walks, meeting new people and other animals.  He is a shy little guy, but we are working on that.  He plays fetch and knows a few commands.  My favorite is roll over.  Uno is such a sweetie.  He greets me when I come home and cuddles me at night.  He's my "Little Man".  Uno is one of the best things that has happened to me.
